When St. Alphonsus Liguori was a young lawyer in Italy, he saw the need for someone to help the poor learn the true faith of the Church. He gave up his career and founded an order of priests called the Redemptorists to preach in the poor cities and villages. Fr. Alphonsus had many struggles: his coworkers argued with him and left, heretics tried to mislead the people he was teaching, and many people misunderstood his goal for his order. However, he continued to work patiently to help people come to know Christ.
