St. Matthew, also known as Levi, never intended to become one of Christ’s apostles.  One day as he sat at his table in collecting taxes, he saw Jesus, who said to him, “Follow me.”  Without speaking or hesitating, Matthew left his friends and his work to obey the Lord.  He became an apostle and the author of one of the four Gospels.
