For much of his life, St. Paulinus was a politician in what is now France.  When he converted to Christianity, he decided to give all his time and wealth to the Church.  Because of his great courtesy and kind personality, all those who knew him loved him.  In fact, many considered him a saint even while he was alive.  The Christians of his locale asked Paulinus to become a priest.  He served well in this capacity, and eventually he became a bishop.
